Newly released for the 1980 model year, it came in a single colour, and, as they say, "That was that"—no more triples. It was the final model in the renowned two-stroke dynasty.
A 400 was also offered in Japan and maybe in the South African market, as Kork Ballington was from South Africa and had recently won the 250/350 World Championship. And this time the competition was ahead on performance, but the little triple still looked good.
